Anirudh: Real Words of Wisdom

I don't believe in lost causes. Try as I may, I always believe in putting a little more into a cause, in the hope that some day, it'll reinvent itself. Comatose patients, terminal illness, trying to teach an old dog new tricks: none of these do I consider losing battles until I've given it a very decent try. Much like trying to teach an old dog new tricks, is trying to get Gautham to keep writing.

The scientific community has long since recognised the vast differences between speaking and writing aptitudes. The linguistic community has done several studies on the same. The key difference is in the mental processes. Speech comes to us naturally through our system of human interaction, and obviously, is fundamental to our survival. Writing however, is not a matter of simply putting speech on paper. Unlike speech, writing requires systematic instruction (or continued self-critiquing), and certainly, practice.

This explanation I found somewhere left me wanting more. It did not explain why there was this difference. What I have long felt was the underlying reason for this difference, is the problematic idea of time. Human beings are aware of the shortcomings of communication, and as a result attempt to achieve a level of clarity relative to its requirement. In verbal communication, clarity is often sacrificed for word economy, simply because if faced with confusion, the speaker can instantly close the gap in understanding by rephrasing his/her idea. However, with the written word, the importance of precision and clarity become magnified manyfold, since the interaction is not instantaneous, and misunderstanding may not necessarily be detected.

I feel that the way letters are written make for a great example to support my idea. In the time when communiqués were sent through messengers on horseback, they were long, well-worded and complete, offering at times, a much larger picture than was needed, just to make sure it wasn't left wanting. As the postal system developed, letters for various purposes followed different formats, to make the writer's intent clear to the recipient. And now, as we've moved to an age of e-mails, this need has largely diminished, as information transfer became instantaneous, and questions could be clarified within minutes. An even lower attention to structure and content exists in the world of IMs, SMS and Whatsapp, which pretty much simply mimics face-to-face conversation.

The need to train one's written competence however, is not negated by the establishment of electronic means of communication, albeit of diminished importance compared to the Middle Ages. The fact that still so much in the world, be it newspapers or journals happen to be in print, and still so many more items of communication happen to electronic, yet of a non-interactive form, preserves the need for written competence in the world today. And this like anything else, takes practice.

Anirudh: Revocation of title of 'Blogs of Note'

Dear Readers,

For several reasons I write here today. Firstly, as anyone who has arrived at this page in the last two years, or even since it's conception, must have realised, this isn't a blog. It's a dead website.

And even if one were to contend that by all known and widely-accepted definitions, this is a blog, I intend to revoke the highly prestigious standard of "Blog of Note" that Anirudhsmusings deals out at regular intervals, since I deem it hazardous to my blog's reputation to continue to hold this .. this thing.. at such high stature.

Another reason I write here today, is to further draw what few readers this blog may have, to my very own new and improved blog. Not only has it been recently given an aesthetic overhaul, it has also been reinvented in terms of content and theme, and never again shall the world want for a new post at  my blog.

Yet another reason I write here today, is that I am currently on a mission to start yet another blog, whose address on the blogosphere shall be advertised at a later time, and request thy kind support.

With nothing but sympathy for the pain and suffering this blog has caused you,
I am, your faithful servant,

Anirudh Krishnan

Of hope and fulfillment.

Dear "Patrons" of Grey-Cells-Overflow,

I have been informed (indeed, berated with highly abusive language) that it will officially be ONE YEAR on the 26th of November, since I last posted anything worth the perusal of my ardent readers. In short, Anirudh, here I am! :)

Unfortunately, due to some unavoidable obligations (such as friggin' exams) this week, I shall not be posting any paper worth the critical acclaim that accompanies a new Harry Potter release just now. However, this is to inform all my fans( this is just asking for trouble, I know!) that Gautham will officially be back on the 28th of November, 2009, to assist any jobless blog-hoppers with my natural wit, charm and as my buddy Anirudh calls it, my "charisma".

Hence, I bade you all farewell for now and promise that I shall indeed oblige those loyal souls who have laid down their time to know me better and have till this date, visited my blog for some kind of hope. Have heart, my followers, for shortly, you shall be fulfilled with all the anecdotes and assessments that I have been carrying with me all year. Get ready to survey the world through my eyes!

On that strong note, I take your leave. May you get through the week with the anticipation and excitement that always accompanies the promise of entertainment, a.k.a Gautham.

P.S - Don't beat me.

Anirudh: Of ships and shores.

Dear Patrons of "Words of Wisdom from the Weirdo Genius",

-pause- Hold on, there AREN'T any official patrons save the two contributors. Oh wells

Anyway, dear patrons of "Words of Wisdom from the Weirdo Genius", if there are such patrons that might wish not to be official "Followers" of this superbly boring blog,

I trust that you are not very pleased with the contents of this blog, owing primarily to the fact that it has a grand total of three posts and hasn't been updated in what is nearing a year; I daresay I wouldn't be far from the truth in making such an assumption. Pardon me for the superfluity of my word usage in this post, but it all serves to accentuate the extent of my displeasure with this largely boring keepsake that I have worked tirelessly over the last couple of weeks to unearth with the use of my archaeological equipment.

In short, dear patrons, or if I may so call you, sympathisers, the time has arrived, the time when your captain says, "All men, abandon ship." In this regard, I am your captain, and I most pretentiously expect to be obeyed when I say "All men, abandon ship."

And hence I say, "All men, abandon ship."

Where do you go from here? Are you to swim helplessly in the sea of webpages, looking for something buoyant enough to bolster your interest? NO! No captain would wilfully condemn his crew to the misfortune of having to swim helplessly without the faintest hope of finding shore or another ship. Thus I give you, my crew, a ship.
The ship: ANIRUDH's SHIP.

You shall find that not only is my ship filled to the brim with food and supplies (which I am sure THIS ship lacks in totality), but it goes so far as to have feasts for it's crew every day, every meal.

Wait no more,
my ship is set to go,
to lands far and beyond,
while this ship sinks to the ground.

I know this poem sucks, but it lays bare the banal truth that is the only truth that THIS ruddy ship could possibly provide: that IT sucks (worse than the poem)

Yours,
Anirudh Krishnan

ROHAN!!!

This is a testimonial to one of my best friends ever - Rohan Panikkar.

I've known him for almost 4 years now and i've always felt that it was fate that brought us together. We share a lot of common tastes such as a passion for Manchester United, good music and a love for books. Apart from these, he loves to play any sport, his favorite being Cricket. An ardent admirer of Sachin, he claims never to watch cricket again after sachin retires... truly a passionate fan! He loves to hang out with friends and eat junk stuff all the time..and of course, hates studies!...

But then, these are merely his interests...as a friend, he has always stuck by me ever since I wandered into this school and we have spent extremely enjoyable, albeit, unproductive days in each others' company. Many events come into my mind when I speak of time spent with this guy, the foremost being the holidays in which we get together at his house and play FIFA or just surf around...
He has a very good sense of humour and a peculiarly lovable laugh which he has bestowed upon those lucky ones who have been in his company for a long time ( namely me, anirudh, pawan.....gopal...although gopal could never seem to get a laugh out of this guy however hard he tried with his comical kidding around...).
...Oh, almost forgot...He has a wide range of words in his vocabulary which he is more than willing to share among his less fortunate buddies and it has had me standing in good stead for the moment...

We have spent a lot of time arguing and laughing and this has been amongst the best friendships one could possibly hope for... We have been constructive in shaping each others' character over the years and this has resulted in a truly fantastic journey ..

                                                                      G.R
                                                                      R.P

Here's to our friendship ...

Cheers!!

Back after being in Exile!!

Yo...

Just a reminder in case everyone's forgotten me (Gautham, the weirdo genius )as I've been in exile with only my books for company.... :P

Well, as I am almost done with work for atleast 2 weeks, I am taking some time off to develop this piece of relic I call a blog. I didn't really give a hint about what I'm into nowadays, so I thought I would now...

I am what the onlooker would describe a typical geek, a term I would beg to differ with as you might be knowing from my previous post. At present, well, I'm just facebooking and mainly into an application called "Geo Challenge", in which I have stiff competition from my best buddy, Anirudh... We are always into a dead-lock with something or the other, the last being "Who has the biggest brain" which deteriorated into a kind of detente...However, the challenge is on and I am really enjoying this one... Apart from frolicking unproductively through the net, I have plans to start reading non-fiction... I am really into fantasy fiction at the present but I feel a change would be nice ...

Look out for the next blog ... you'll get a taste of my friends and the numerous ways in which they entice me into their company for which I am so thankful to...

Till then....

My First Post ... :) !!!

Hey all ...

Well, this is Gautham Ramchandran and this is my blog ... Basically, I've created this blog in order to pen down the ultra-myriad thoughts that flash by in my head every now and again before I can make head or tail of them... haha... well, thats enough of the immodest intro I think....

Let me really say something myself now... I live in Chennai, India . My main interests revolve around reading fantasy fiction, action, reality and non-fiction...Sports, well, I'm really into tennis, cricket, soccer, badminton, table tennis...the list is endless... I follow tennis, cricket and soccer on T.V and my sporting idols are Roger Federer, Adam Gilchrist, Steve Waugh, Wayne Mark Rooney, and Cristiano Ronaldo to name a few....

I am also a music-lover and my faves are AkoN, T-Pain, Linkin' Park, Black Eyed Peas, Poets of the Fall, Switchfoot, Timbaland, One Republic, Fort Minor, Maroon 5....to name a few... I also listen to hindi songs though my tastes are mainly focussed on English...

Apart from the extra-curriculars, I am considered a nerd by many of my year, a sentiment I most vehemently protest against owing to the fact that I love hanging out with friends and going out together which I have been doing since I joined my present school, hence, contradicting the initial feelings hidden behind the accusation...

Well, what else can I say about myself?... I'm just a crazy, fun-loving, active 15- year old who right now wishes that he doesn't have to get back to studying for his exams...

that's about all for the moment..

Cheerio!
